Cormac Breslin - BWF Certificated Umpire Passes Away

BWF Certificated Umpire Passes Away

Cormac Breslin of Ireland passed away on 9 August 2012 at the age of 51 years. He had suffered from a cancer for some time.

BWF and his many friends among Technical Officials worldwide will sorely miss a good friend, a top class international badminton umpire and an excellent teacher, who loved to share and discuss his ideas about badminton with his peers.

Cormac Breslin was Accredited by BWF on 24 February 2002 and Certificated on 17 December 2006. A highlight of his career became the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008, where he was selected to umpire in the medal matches. As late as the end of May 2012, Cormac umpired with distinction at the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals in Wuhan, China, going back into hospital on his return to Ireland.

BWF offers its condolences to his family and to Badminton Ireland.

Torsten Berg

Vice President / Chair Technical Officials Commission
